Erectile Disorder
About Erectile Disorder
Erectile disorder is a sexual dysfunction involving marked difficulty obtaining or maintaining an erection during sexual activity, or a marked decrease in erectile rigidity, on most occasions over a period of months, causing significant distress. Occasional erectile difficulties are common and are not a disorder. The condition becomes more common with age and is frequently linked to physical health factors, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, smoking and some medications, as well as psychological factors including performance anxiety, depression, stress and relationship difficulties, and often several factors interact. Because erectile problems can be an early sign of cardiovascular disease, medical evaluation is generally recommended. Management depends on the underlying causes and may include treatment of medical conditions, lifestyle changes, medication, devices, and psychosexual or couples therapy, which can address anxiety and communication. Many people experience substantial improvement with appropriate care.
